Importance of change management in organizations.

What is organizational change management?

Organizational change refers to steps taken by an organization to modify a major aspect of its operations, such as its culture, technology, infrastructure, or internal processes. Organizational change management is the process of managing change to achieve a successful outcome (Stobierski, Tim, 2020).

Why is organizational change management important?

For businesses to succeed and expand, they must undergo organizational change (Stobierski, Tim, 2020).

Change management is responsible for the successful adoption and implementation of change in the workplace (Stobierski, Tim, 2020).

Company transitions can be difficult and costly in terms of both time and resources without good organizational change management (Stobierski, Tim, 2020).

Employee morale and skill development will suffer as a result of ineffective change management (Stobierski, Tim, 2020).

Ineffective change management can lead to the organization’s downfall (Stobierski, Tim, 2020).

Managers’ role in change management.

Managers must consider the holistic situation and define the level of change in the organization, explaining why it is taking place and encouraging employees to go on with it (Stobierski, Tim, 2020).


Types of change within an organization.

1) Developmental change.

Any upgrade to an organization’s present operations is considered a development change (indeed, 2021).

2) Transitional change

When one organization merges with another, it is called a transitional change (indeed, 2021).

3) Transformational change

When an organization decides to entirely overhaul its current operations. For example, an organization can launch new items that are unlike anything it has previously made (indeed, 2021).

Steps of implementing change management,

I. Engage.

In this stage, employees should be informed about the change's impact, the problems of executing it, and the benefits it will bring, in terms of improving the work environment. Prospective followers of the transition should be approached as change advocates, stressing the importance of the same (indeed, 2021).

II. Plan.

In this stage, it is necessary to collaborate with relevant parties in teams, departments, and people during the planning stage. It will require analyzing the impact of change on job content, work environment, roles, and potential advantages for each employee and the organization (indeed, 2021).

III. Implement.

In this stage, it is necessary to aggressively involve every employee of the organization during the implementation stage to ensure that they support the change. To ensure the program's effectiveness, it is necessary to use a variety of communication methods such as official announcements, meetings, emails, and noticeboard messages (indeed, 2021).

IV. Reinforce.

It is necessary to keep staff connected to get them to embrace change and stay motivated to put it into action on a frequent basis. Individual performance evaluations can also be used to demonstrate how the staff is making the transition from old to new processes (indeed, 2021).

Conclusion

If an organization does not change, it will fall behind its competitors. Organizations can swiftly become outdated or overtaken by factors to which they are unable to adjust. Things can go wrong if there is no strategy in place and the employees who will be affected by the change are not appropriately guided. This is why change management is essential in any organization.
